Professional Scrum Master

1–2 minutes

My work year is officially over, and I’m on 2.5 weeks’ leave for Christmas break. Pretty excited let me tell you. After focusing so much on building my functional and technical skills, I realised another way I could push myself was by learning to work as a Scrum Master.

I have worked on end-to-end projects this year, where we held stand-ups, worked with a Jira board and backlog, and used burn-down charts. However, there wasn’t a clear path for me on how this all pulls together, and as we have been shifting from Waterfall to Agile, I felt this was a no-brainer.

I spent some time comparing the two main options, Scrum Alliance and Scrum. A great resource can be found here. The main reason for choosing Scrum and the PSM1 Certification was my location. The in-person classes were not being held until next year, and the time of the virtual courses was not workable for me (3am start?). Definitely geared toward North American folks. In the end, I purchased this class on Udemy. After following along and then doing the recommended study and practice exams, I understood the framework and successfully passed the exam on the first attempt. A solid finish to a truly incredible year!
