Yesterday as I was busy clocking up steps for STEPtember, I listened to one of Talent Hub Talks latest podcasts, with Christopher Hopper. Many things they discussed made so much sense, especially regarding the job market and how hot it is. One point that resonated with me is the “Why” of what motivates a person to seek a new position. Is it more money? Fewer hours and stress? Different opportunities? What really stood out is other ways to approach this, especially if you are mostly happy in your position. Difficult conversations are essential to consulting; having them regarding your own performance adds another dimension.
Last month to reduce stress in my family and create more life balance, I talked to my team lead and HR about reducing my hours. Our kids have been virtually learning for the last few months (like half the world it seems) and the struggle is real. Thankfully they were terrific, and I’m now working 10 hours less each week. This has considerably improved our quality of life, with my husband also being able to balance out his load.
I’ve been studying for the Experience Cloud certificate for a few months now. The funny thing about working is that you have less time for learning. Who knew🤷♀️
One of my fellow alumni at Talent Stacker Career Development Group is on a similar path in skills development. We’ve joined forces for a daily study session for the next 10 days to get us in shape for the exam. The time zones and oceans that separate us are no match for our determination. 👩🏻🎓🧑🏼🎓
